Reed's Opinion: Reed's Opinion: It's Time to Say It: Impeachment Must Happen Now

We have reached the moment no one wants to name. Not the press. Not Congress. Not even many of the voices that claim to stand in defense of democracy. But here it is, as plainly as it can be said:
Impeachment Must Happen Now!!!

This is no longer about political gamesmanship or partisan retaliation. It is not about scoring points or reliving old scandals. It is about the survival of American democracy, and whether we believe that the rule of law should mean anything when applied to those in power. What we are watching unfold in real time is a pattern of executive defiance, judicial disregard and constitutional erosion. From the Kilmar Abrego Garcia contempt proceedings to the active promotion of authoritarian policies under the banner of Project 2025, the Trump administration has made one thing clear: it does not recognize limits.
The machinery of accountability has stalled. Contempt of court is treated like a press release. Illegal deportations (kidnappings) are masked in bureaucratic technicalities. Public trust is treated like an obstacle to power. Every tool intended to hold power in check has been undermined — and that leaves only one tool remaining: Impeachment.
Is it a political risk? Maybe, but this is no longer political. America is under-attack from within. Bottom-line is that risk is far outweighed by the risk of doing nothing. If we let this moment pass, if we allow the government to defy the courts and ignore its constitutional obligations without consequence, we are complicit in normalizing lawlessness. We will not get a second chance to get this right.
Impeachment is not a radical idea. It is the constitutional remedy for precisely this kind of abuse. It is the process that exists when nothing else works. And nothing else is working. Every headline, every delay, every act of evasion by this administration leads us closer to the edge. The economic fallout from the ongoing tariff disaster is only compounding that danger. In a time when families are struggling under historic price spikes for food and essentials, the administration's decision to double down on failed trade policies isn’t just reckless — it’s destructive. These tariffs aren’t punishing foreign powers; they’re punishing the very Americans this government was elected to serve.
This is the inflection point. If Congress fails to act now, there may not be another chance. It’s time to stop fearing the word. Impeachment isn’t chaos — it’s accountability.
And accountability is all that can save us now. But Congress won’t act unless the people demand it. That means every American who still believes in the Constitution needs to light up their representatives — flood their inboxes, jam their phone lines, show up in person if they have to. This isn’t a time for silence. It’s a time to apply relentless, unapologetic pressure.
Impeachment must move forward and it must move now.
